Rides were shut down at a Fourth of July celebration in Dobbs Ferry after one of them partially derailed, police say. It happened Thursday evening at Waterfront Park.
It happened around 4:15 p.m. when police with the Dobbs Ferry Police Department say they got a report of a 'kiddy' roller coaster coming off the track.
Aaron Sahr was sitting right by the ride when it happened.
"The whole track slid off the wood blocks, it started to tip and a bunch of people myself included, rushed over and held it up," says Sahr.
Sahr says as they were helping hold up the ride, the power was cut off. Then, all the riders were helped down.
Police say no one was seriously hurt.
"You hear about it happening but you never think you are going to see something like that happen," says Sahr.
Police tell News 12 they recommended all the rides to be shut down pending an inspection.
The entire incident caused a moment of panic and confusion for some families who watched it all unfold.
"It felt like slow motion, tipping over. A whole bunch of people ran over and literally held the ride up. They were right there, they kind of saved the day," says Dobbs Ferry resident Amy Shapiro-Kessler.
News 12 is still waiting to hear from the amusement ride supplier about what's next for them.
Fireworks were still planned at the park for around 9 p.m.
