The accident happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday on Route 6 in the town of Woodbury in Orange County.
State police investigators identified the driver as 43-year-old Steffany Egger of Stony Point.
According to detectives, Egger was driving a 2017 Nissan eastbound on Route 6 at a high rate of speed. Police say she was not able to navigate the curve at the Long Mountain traffic circle, lost control and went through the center of the traffic circle, striking a tree head on.
Police say a 21-year-old Stony Point man was in the front seat, his name has not yet been released. Sitting in the back seat was 19-year-old Xavier Egger, also of Stony Point.
All three had to be extricated from the car.
Xavier Egger died as a result of his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Steffany Egger and the 21-year-old man were taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla with non-life-threatening injuries.
State police say they are still investigating and are asking anyone who may have seen the accident to contact the State Police Monroe Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 845-344-5300.
