The owner of a Mount Vernon laundromat says an intruder shoved an attendant up against a wall and took $100 from her purse.
Surveillance footage from MegaMat Super Laundromat on East Third Street captured the incident, showing the attendant being confronted by the intruder who police said was not armed with a weapon.
"The attendant was pushed up against the wall, which is shown on the video and demanded she turn over whatever money she had on her," said Conrad Cutler, owner of MegaMat.
Despite a failed attempt to break into the register, the suspect escaped with $100 from the attendant's purse.
"I spoke with the attendant after the incident occurred, she was hysterically crying and extremely scared," said Cutler about the employee who has worked form him for 10 years.
He said this is the second robbery at his business in five years. Cutler says more needs to be done to make the area safe.
"There have not been streetlights for the past 10 years on the block, despite our repeated attempts to the City of Mount Vernon," said Cutler.
Cutler also said he worries multiple road and bridge closures in the area are impacting police response times. He also says he'd like to see more police patrols in the area.
