A new Marist College poll shows that some Americans may need a refresher course on their nation's history. The study revealed that only 58 percent of Americans knew that the United States declared its independence in 1776, and that one in four Americans have no clue that the United States split from Great Britain. That being said, residents across the region enjoyed plenty of July 4 festivities yesterday. Families flocked to the pool at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, while others took part in barbecues and fireworks shows. Fireworks displays will light up the sky again this evening, from the "Spark the Sound" spectacular in New Rochelle to the Fourth of July Jamboree in Katonah.
