Rockland County is launching an investigation into possible Medicaid fraud costing nearly $13 million.
During a 21-month period, VERIFY New York, a software program created by IBM, has looked at Medicaid claims to determine their accuracy. They first looked at 4,000 Rockland physicians. Taking 120 of those who utilize Medicaid more often, it was discovered that out of a total of $67 million expended in that area nearly $13 million dollars of that was questionable. The Rockland County executive says saving just half of that could mean a 15 percent reduction in property taxes.
None of the providers being questioned have been charged with anything yet. However, if fraudulent practices are determined, it will be up to the NYS Attorney General?s office to prosecute.
