Officials toured contractors around a Yonkers apartment complex to learn more about its plan to convert gas stoves to electric.
The residents have been without gas for months due to a leak.
Building representative Kara Magoolaghan said the tour will help the contractors decide if they want to submit a bid to help convert the complex to electric.
Apartment officials said they're interested in making the change because residents have been without gas since August after a leak was discovered.
The building representative shared what the first steps in the project will look like.
"It'll be a service entry upgrade, we are replacing the stoves in this phase, and we're getting ready to support the domestic hot water and the HVAC electrification" Magoolaghan said.
Magoolaghan said they want to get as many interested contractors involved in the bidding process as possible.
Bids are due April 21.
David Sheehan, a representative from Callahan Construction Managers, said he wants his company to be the one that gets the job done.
"I live in Yonkers so...with the gas and everything going on over here, it's something for the community," Sheehan said.
Building officials said they're hoping to start construction as soon as this summer.
A 43-year resident named Warnette said she can't wait for the process to move forward.
"I miss my stove very much," she said.
