A Poughkeepsie man has been sentenced to 20 years to life after his conviction for kidnapping and attempted robbery of a pregnant woman and two minor children in her custody.
Prosecutors say Derrick Woodhouse abducted Gretchen Munguia and the children at knifepoint. He approached Munguia's vehicle while the two children were seated in the backseat and held a knife to her stomach.
Woodhouse threatened to hurt the children and ordered Munguia to drive to an ATM and withdraw money.
The defendant demanded the money, but when Munguia accidentally dropped her wallet and the cash, Woodhouse left the vehicle.
Following an investigation, Woodhouse was arrested the following day.
