Police in Poughkeepsie had a very busy July Fourth, responding to several emergencies.

At 7:30 a.m., officers were flagged down by employees at the Family Dollar on Main near South Hamilton Street. Those employees told police someone had opened fire, hitting the windows of the store. No one was hurt.

Police got another call at 10:30 a.m. for shots fired, this time on Mansion Street. No one was hurt there either.

At 6:40 p.m., officers encountered a 42-year-old man who allegedly resisted arrest at the scene of a car accident in College Hill Park. Police say the man became aggressive, and at one point exposed himself and jumped on the hood of another vehicle involved in the crash. He was charged with criminal mischief.

A 28-year-old man, who police say was intoxicated, allegedly punched an officer in the face outside a home on North White Street at 8 p.m.. That suspect is now facing charges of felony assault in the second degree.

At 8:30 p.m., officers were flagged down near Columbus Drive where a non-verbal child with autism was standing in the road and running through traffic. Officers were able to get the child to police headquarters and reunited the child with their mother.
