This week, Gov. Kathy Hochul delivered her fifth State of the State address.

The speech came as the governor also works to court voters during this election year.

Hochul's proposals were highlighted by plans to invest in statewide universal childcare, cracking down on fraud to reduce insurance rates and going after illegally 3D printed guns.

“I’ve said from the beginning: Your family is my fight," she said. "And in this moment, when the future feels full of promise, but under real threat: your future is my fight as well."

Democratic state Sen. Pete Harckham said he was pleased to hear from the governor and is ready to get to work on the budget.

"She touched on past accomplishments, a vision for the future and you know, it's a roadmap for the budget process," he said.

Republican Assemblyman Matt Slater felt the governor did not provide enough substance in her speech.

"Ultimately, for middle-class suburban families, I think it was a real missed opportunity to tackle the affordability crisis head-on," he said.
