It has been 2 days now without power at the Broadview Senior Living Center at Purchase College, and right now you can see crews are still busy trying to get things working again. News Twelve's Emily Druby joins us now with the latest on these efforts tonight. Emily. That's right, and the power went out here around 3:45 in the afternoon on Wednesday. Now Broadview's executive director tells us the issue started over there in that ATS device. A squirrel caused some damage, cutting off power for the 350 residents who call the senior living center home. She and a resident tell us their emergency generator turned on quickly, but they did have to rely on it for about 24 hours, which caused some commotion, for example. It limited the number of elevators in service, but now they have a much stronger generator working that is providing power to about 75% of the residents except for the villas here at the senior living center. We are being told 45 occupied villas still have no power, and residents have to rely on the main building's amenities, which is about a quarter of a mile away. That's really management's big concern at this point, getting power back to those residents who are still in the dark. And absolutely a power outage is a concern. So even though we've tried to make the best of it, we do wanna, uh, recognize that it has not been without significant sacrifice on their part, um, and effort on ours to try to uh maintain normality. uh, most of the people that I've spoken to were very happy, you know, the way it was taken care of again out of our control. In building management says they've been in constant contact with Con Edison, but they still have no idea when the power will be fully restored. The Broadview Senior Living Center at Purchase College lost power on Wednesday when a squirrel caused damage to the facility's ATS system, according to Broadview’s executive director, Ashley Wade.
