Voters across the Hudson Valley are heading to the polls today to decide several primary races across the region.

Polling sites are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Most of the contests are Democratic primaries, including several high-profile races drawing attention.

One of the most closely watched is the race for the 17th Congressional District seat.

The district covers all of Rockland and Putnam counties, the northern half of Westchester County and parts of southern Dutchess County.

Five Democrats are competing for the chance to face Republican Congressman Mike Lawler in November.

Candidates include Army veteran Cait Conley and Rockland County Legislator Beth Davidson, who are considered top contenders.

Tarrytown Trustee Effie Phillips-Staley, former journalist Mike Sacks and Air Force veteran John Cappello are also on the ballot.

Another closely watched race is the Democratic primary for Greenburgh town supervisor.

Paul Feiner, who has held the position since 1991, is facing a challenge from Ardsley Village Trustee Barry McGoey.

There is no Republican candidate currently running, meaning the primary winner could effectively secure the seat in November.

There are also primary races for county legislative seats, as well as state Assembly and state Senate contests across the region.

Officials remind voters they can only participate in primaries for the party in which they are registered.
