Newburgh police say a 10-year-old boy who was shot and killed Monday was with his younger stepbrothers when the shooting happened.
Police say Brandon Scandrett was playing with his 6- and 8-year-old stepbrothers Monday night when he was fatally shot inside 51 Chambers St. Police have not yet determined who fired the 9 mm handgun, but they arrested Brandon's stepfather, 51-year-old Robert Gooding, for having the gun in the family's home.
Newburgh hopes to coordinate another gun buyback program in response to the shooting.
