A parking development proposal is garnering mixed reactions from the Yonkers community.
JFK Marina has clear views of the Hudson River all the way to the Gov. Mario Cuomo Bridge and Manhattan, but there is a proposal to turn the space into a three-story parking garage that could hold 550 cars.
It's all part of the redevelopment of the Glenwood Power Plant to offer parking for its employees as well as the general public.
Yonkers resident Bob Walters says it's an abomination.
"We all say that we support the revitalization of the plant project, we just don't want a commercial parking lot on the Yonkers waterfront," he says.
On top of parking, the plan is to turn the roof into a massive green space.
"An artificial park on top of a third floor is not equivalent to just a ground floor access to the water," says Dominique Surh, co-founder of Trevor Park.
Some see the rooftop park as a safe place for kids, with sports courts and activities the marina doesn't currently offer.
"For years, we've always had to fight to have something nice put in our community or in our neighborhood, and particularly something for our kids to be off the streets," says Pastor Jim Bostic.
Bostic says he thinks the benefits of the parking structure far outweigh the obstructed view.
"This is the side of the town where the majority of minorities live...those people who are opposed to it don't even live in this neighborhood." he says.
Those who oppose the plan are putting together a petition to give to the city to stop it from happening.
