Rockland County has agreed to purchase a countywide emergency radio system, but not all of the towns are on board.

The county Legislature has approved a $30 million project that will allow all first responders to be on the same radio system. However, Orangetown and Ramapo town leaders say certain terminology in the plan doesn?t sit right with them. The plan states the towns will be responsible for the equipment, not the county.

Despite the legal language in the plan, both the Orangetown and Ramapo town supervisors said they are completely supportive of the project. Ramapo Supervisor Chris St. Lawrence also said that he and the county executive are currently working out the plan?s terminology to make all parties happy.

The Legislature has said that more than 90 percent of the municipalities in Rockland must sign on for the radio system to be purchased.
