Police and the general public honored NYPD Detective Jason Rivera Friday as a procession brought him to a Westchester cemetery.
The Westchester County and Yonkers Police Departments hosted a "Hero's Salute" as Rivera's body was taken through Westchester for a private, family-only service at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale after a funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Friday morning.
The public gathered on several Thruway overpasses to show their respect and give a final salute.
Rivera and his partner, 27-year-old Wilbert Mora, were ambushed and shot a week ago during a domestic dispute in Harlem.
Rivera died that night, and Mora died a few days later.
The officer, who was just married a few months ago, was promoted posthumously to detective.
