Putnam County advances legislation to control the migrant population in the county
Both proposals are now eligible for a full vote of the county legislature, where they could become codified into local law

The Putnam County legislature has advanced two new pieces of legislation to control the migrant population in the county.
The first would prohibit any outside municipality, which includes New York City, from housing its homeless population there.
That would also include banning asylum seekers from the county’s temporary residences without first entering an agreement with the county.
The second declares Putnam a "Rule of Law County."
County officials say that declaration makes it clear Putnam County not a sanctuary county.
Both proposals are now eligible for a full vote of the county legislature, where they could become codified into local law
