Ramapo police say they have arrested a woman in connection to a suspicious fire in Airmont that left a family homeless.
Lila Poritsky says her husband and another neighbor rescued a woman from the back porch of a home on Dunn Road as it was burning.
"He helped her down. The neighbor brought a chair. She asked for water. They brought water," she says.
Several fire departments, Ramapo police and the state Bureau of Criminal Investigations all responded to the fire, just before 12 p.m. Wednesday.
A Red Cross representative says the agency is setting up temporary housing for the family of four who lived there.
Police say the fire is suspicious and that one person was detained at the scene.
Firefighters say the different departments worked well together to minimize damage.
They say one woman was inside the home when the fire started.
A Ramapo police detective says while someone was detained at the scene, no one has been charged yet in direct connection to this fire.
Police say a 51-year-old female resident of Airmont was arrested and charged with arson in the third degree and criminal mischief in the second degree.
The female was arraigned in the Airmont Court and was released without bail.
She is due back in Airmont Court at a later date.
