As another storm blanketed the Hudson Valley with snow and ice Wednesday, Ramapo officials say they are facing a budgetary challenge.
Officials say the price of salt has jumped to $15 per ton, making covering 300 miles of road "an expensive operation."
The Highway Department says it has gone through about $275,000 in salt, which is 16 percent of their 2009 budget.
With temperatures expected to continue dipping, highway officials expect rock salt to once again be in high demand.
