RAIN IS COMING: Meaningful rain is finally returning to the borough Wednesday night – and the rain could be heavy. The last time there was meaningful rain was Sept. 29, which is why there is now a drought warning with conditions expected to worsen before they get better. Before the rain arrives, the National Weather Service has once-again issued a fire weather statement for Tuesday, as the conditions are expected to remain ripe for rapid fire spread. The high fire danger will diminish Wednesday and even more-so Thursday.
Wednesday night's rain will be a quick hit, likely only about six hours of meaningful rain from midnight to 6 a.m. Within that quick hit, there is growing potential for a few downpours that could bring some ponding and minor flooding, especially in poor drainage areas or spots clogged with leaves.
At least a half inch of rain is expected, with the potential for over an inch of rain if the downpours directly hit the borough. The morning commute will likely be impacted with hazardous road conditions, as lots of leaves and oils from vehicles will make roads much more slippery compared to an average rainfall. This will be a major problem, even if the rain stops falling after 6 a.m.
The storm remains close-by all the way through early Saturday – meaning it will be much colder and dreary. Highs will be stuck in the 40s starting Thursday, and lows will be in the 30s at night. This will be the coldest stretch of the season so far, with isolated showers Thursday night through early Saturday. It also gets windy Wednesday night and stays windy through the weekend with 20 to 30 mph gusts likely – even 40 mph possible during the heaviest rain.
