Rep. Bowman, community organizations seek gov't aid to help fund schools, nonprofits, local gov't, small businesses
Rep. Jamaal Bowman stood with more than 10 community organizations in Yonkers Monday to ask the federal government to help fund community projects for Westchester schools, nonprofits, local government and small businesses.
He is asking for a little more than $5.4 million in aid.
Bowman says there are many projects that need funding coming out of the pandemic, and without it, the community will suffer.
One of the 10 organizations asking for help is the Yonkers Family YMCA.
It says it needs close to $500,000 to make renovations to their swimming pool and to promote health equity and affordable swim access to Black and brown kids.
Other organizations that need help financially include:
Westhab
YMCA of New Rochelle
Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center
Mount Vernon Sewage Cleanup Project
Town of Mamaroneck Senior Center
The senior center also needs a little more than $300,000 to renovate its building.
Rep. Bowman says he's been in contact with the House Appropriations Committee in Congress to do whatever it takes to bring extra resources and funding to help the Westchester-based community groups.
