Community leaders and educators gathered at Mount Vernon High School on Saturday morning to induct Rep. George Latimer, former state Sen. Ruth Hassell-Thompson and former WCBS meteorologist Elise Finch-Henriques to the school's ever-growing Hall of Fame.
Dozens of people gathered into the school to celebrate the three Mount Vernon natives and alumni. Acting Superintendent Dr. K. Veronica Smith says it’s important for current students to be inspired by former students.
"We need role models, and we need those role models who walked the halls, lived in this community and grew up looking to become whatever they aspired to be. So, for our students, they'll realize that they too can become incredible human beings," said Dr. Smith.
Other notable alumni previously inducted include Dick Clark, Art Carney and Ken Singleton.
