Republican Rep. Mike Lawler took center stage on Sunday, for the second, in a series of town hall meetings in the Hudson Valley. "This is what democracy looks like, this is the participation in government and the ability to speak with your representatives whether you agree with them or not," he said. By comparison, to the week before in Rockland County, there were fewer outbursts and heckling from the Westchester County audience. When asked by an audience member whether he supported due process for everyone, including students and immigrants, Lawler replied: "Due process is at the founding of our country and it is vital for people to have faith and trust in their government. So, due process is paramount." Lawler's revelation that he will meet at the White House on Monday with representatives from the Department of Government Efficiency drew a mix of boos and applause from the crowd. Future town hall meetings will be held in Putnam and Dutchess counties on dates to be announced.
