Some residents at the Barker Terrace Apartments in Mount Kisco are fighting to stay in their homes.

This comes after their building’s board announced a rent increase last November.

Some residents say it marks a 54% increase in their rent and that they’re struggling to afford it.

News 12 talked to residents who say they’ve been living in the building for over 25 years.

“It’s been our home for a while and we’re going to do our best to stay there,” said Terrance Gillmore, a resident at the apartment building. “To find out at the age of 66, I could be on the streets. I mean, it’s unthinkable.”

Six cases were in court on Thursday night. Two cases have already been resolved. But the remaining cases have been adjourned until Sept. 12.

“The building has needed some substantial work for a fairly significant period of time and the board is really mandated to bring the building up to standards,” Steven Waldinger, attorney for the co-op board, said.
