Bronx residents celebrated a small victory Sunday after a traffic light was installed at the intersection of Crosby and Roberts avenues two weeks ago. Pedestrians say the section of road is as dangerous as walking across a highway.
According to Joseph Sullivan, a lawyer who frequently represents pedestrians involved in vehicular accidents, January is the most deadly month for pedestrians in the Bronx. Sullivan blames the wide thoroughfares and carelessness of drivers who speed.
After receiving many complaints and a petition organized by Councilman James Vacca that received more than 700 signatures, the Department of Traffic conducted a study on the intersection in November 2008 and determined the need for a stop light.
