More people will be allowed inside Hudson Valley restaurants, as restaurant capacity increases to 75%.
The new limit also applies to other parts of the state, except New York City, where capacity will increase to 50%.
Urbano Estevez, owner of La Bella Havana, has been in business in Yonkers for 10 years. Estevez says the increased capacity doesn't benefit his business because of the social distancing measures that are still in place.
Estevez says takeout and delivery has helped keep his business afloat. However, with delivery comes a third-party charge of up to 30% for services like Uber Eats and Grubhub.
Many restaurants in Westchester barely run on a 30% margin, which means that delivery charges are pulling some revenue from local businesses that are already hurting.
That's why the city of Yonkers is stepping in to help by passing a new bill that caps delivery charges at 10%, allowing restaurants to retain more revenue.
The bill will go into effect within the next few weeks.
