A retired Dutchess County nurse answered the call for help during the pandemic.

Barbara Grace spent 40 years with MidHudson Regional Hospital - 30 as a nurse and the last 10 as a volunteer patient advocate after retiring from nursing.

When the Poughkeepsie hospital asked if she'd like a new volunteer position as an observer with their vaccination process, she happily accepted. She began this past February.

She says she hasn't seen any major allergic reactions from COVID-19 vaccines - just smiles.

"When they come in for their vaccines, they're all happy. They're thrilled. Finally, I said one day, 'Disney's got nothing on us. We're the happiest place on Earth,'" she says.

Grace began her observation role back in February.
