People know Steve Possell from his time on air at WRCR and WRKL but what people may not know, is that the legendary, retired disc jockey, who is blind, now needs help from the same community who tuned into his broadcasts for decades.
“Part of the roof blew off I guess, and it started to leak badly,” said Possell.
The 75-year-old says his mobile home in Stony Point was damaged during last month’s storms and that his insurance isn’t helping.
“The floor, the ceiling, the countertop, the bath and tub, the toilet – everything has to go,” said Possell.
Possell borrowed thousands of dollars from his brother-in-law and sister to pay for a new roof.
“I feel very badly for them. They’re going way far and beyond where they should be,” said Possell.
The retired host says he still needs to come up with another $25,000 that he doesn’t have to fix mold in his bathroom and gut it.
A GoFundMe page has raised more than $7,000 so far. Possell says he’s humbled by the support, but wishes he didn’t need it.
“I’m happy but I’m also sad and depressed in some ways too,” said Possell. “I want to be able to pay everybody back at some point when this is behind me and I can think it out.”
Possell says no matter what – he’s hopeful things will work out and says somehow, they seem to always do.
