Road closures continued in Larchmont Saturday after two manholes caught fire the night before.
Two officers suffered injuries, with one taken to the hospital.
The closures were still impacting traffic southbound on Chatsworth Avenue between North Ave and Myrtle Boulevard as of Saturday afternoon.
Residents reported hearing a loud boom from their homes, some even blocks away.
Owner of Nicky's Pizza Giovanni Manna called in the smoke that was emanating from the manhole cover before the explosion occurred. He reported broken glass in his building from the "sonic boom," and seeing the manhole cover shoot up "almost 40 feet in the air."
"Shattered glass in our restaurant, in the apartments upstairs as well... Just a pretty scary situation," Manna said.
What caused the manholes to
catch on fire was still not known as of Saturday afternoon. While closures were prevalent on Friday night, roads slowly open as the day continued Saturday.
The Village of Larchmont asked residents to be careful in blocked areas and to be aware that temporary outages could occur.
