Some Rockland residents attended an event Monday at Clarkstown’s Street School Community Center to help them find potential unclaimed funds held by the state.
According to the State Comptroller's Office, New York returns $1.5 million to those who file for unclaimed funds each day.
Bonnie Winograd found out that there is some money that has been waiting for her.
"It's money that's been owed to me that's been sitting there for 40 years," she said.
While not everyone ended up with unclaimed cash, some did – like Usha Shah.
"I'm excited,” she said. “I want to see how much."
"It may be a few dollars. It may not be a lot…It puts a smile on your face,” said Rockland County Executive Ed Day. “It’s part of what we should be doing in government – putting smiles on people's faces."
Anyone who would like to see if they have unclaimed funds waiting for them can do so on the state comptroller’s website.
