Special events were planned throughout Rockland County Friday to honor local veterans.
Veterans led the parade from Suffern Village Hall to the soldiers' monument on Washington Avenue. In New City, United Hospice of Rockland honored veterans from wars past and those who have just come back from Iraq. A Navy nurse who served in WWII and the Korean War says many times women have not been recognized, but that is all changing with so many women now in the service.
And a newly renovated park opened in Nyack as a tribute to all veterans. The park, which took more than a year to build, has 11 trees around the outside of the park, one for each American conflict.
