Rockland County is asking residents to conserve water while the county is under a drought watch during the extremely dry weather.

"The most important thing I want to get across to people is that we can work together to make sure it doesn't get worse,” said Rockland County Executive Ed Day.

Some ways to do that include addressing any leaks, take shorter showers and other tips, according to the state.

Rockland County it is continuing to monitor water levels, adding water usage has been low but conservation is still being encouraged to preserve drinking water and to have enough water for firefighters.

County Executive Day added, “we don't want to necessarily alarm people, but we want to get their attention. In this case, where we are right now, the intention is necessary to two issues that are concurrent, is the ban on burning any brush and also trying to conserve water."

Last month was Rockland’s County's driest October in 130 years, according to the National Integrated Drought Information System.

When Rockland County told residents to conserve water in the summer of 2022, usage dropped by 15%.
