Rockland County saw a record number of early voters this election cycle, according to the county’s Board of Elections.
Turnout nearly doubled from 36,195 in 2020 to 60,692 in 2024. The numbers also show more Democrats voted early with 26,185 compared to 18,635 Republicans.
News 12 got a look at where and how votes are counted on Election Day.
"It'll be packed,” said Patricia Giblin, the Republican commissioner for Rockland’s Board of Elections in their New City office. “I'm sure there will be plenty of observers here to try and get the results as fast as possible. But the quickest way is through our website."
Giblin says the website usually updates every 15 to 20 minutes. They moved to a "regional results" system last year for faster unofficial results.
There are eight sites throughout the county where someone inputs polling information into a laptop, which is then transmitted to their office.
A USB with totals is ultimately brought to their New City office later in the evening.
As of Monday, Rockland’s Board of Elections says they've received more than 16,279 absentee ballots.
