Rockland County is suing New York state over when local elections can be held.
The suit challenges a state law that requires local elections only be held in even-numbered years and limits terms.
The bill was passed last year and signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul.
County Executive Ed Day calls the bill a direct violation of local charter and said he hopes the suit will allow the people of the county to choose when and how often they elect their officials.
