A 12-year-old girl says she was approached by a stranger who offered her a ride home as she got off her school bus on Tuesday.
The middle school student had just gotten off the bus in Clarkstown when a man in a white Mercedes approached her and allegedly yelled at her to get into the car.
Clarkstown Assistant Superintendent Deborah Leh said that the stranger offered the girl a ride because it was raining, but that the girl knew better and ran away.
?The child did not know the individual ? and so [she] went in the opposite direction, went home, told an adult,? Leh said.
The superintendent of the Clarkstown Central School District sent an e-mail to students and parents Friday morning, alerting them to what the district calls ?a reported attempt to approach a middle school student.?
The Clarkstown Police Department is in the process of investigating the incident.
