Rockland County has honored a 7-year-old cancer survivor to kickoff September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
County Executive Ed Day presented a proclamation to Jelien Ramos to recognize her efforts to raise awareness about childhood cancers.
Childhood cancer continues to be the leading cause of death by disease for children in America, and health officials say that 43 children in the United States receive cancer diagnoses every day.
