The Rockland County Legislature voted unanimously on Tuesday night to create an Office of Building and Codes to take over inspections in Spring Valley.
County Executive Ed Day submitted a proposal for the Legislature's approval for $1.5 million to go toward the new county office.
It comes after the state ordered Rockland to take over Spring Valley's Building Department no later than Valentine's Day.
Day also submitted a proposal on how the village would eventually regain control of its Building Department after issues have been corrected.
This all comes after a fire at Spring Valley's Evergreen Adult Home last year killed one resident and Spring Valley firefighter Jared Lloyd.
So far, six people have been charged in connection to the fire, including two former top Spring Valley building inspectors on accusations of filing false inspection reports.
