A Sloatsburg 16-year-old is holding a special 5K walk this month in memory of his two baby brothers he never met.
Ruari Maguire’s parents lost his brothers as infants 18 years before he was born.
Both babies suffered from a rare form of muscular dystrophy called myotubular myopathy and died before their first birthday.
Ruari’s event now hopes to raise money in his brothers’ memory for research and outreach through the Joshua Frase Foundation.
“It was before I was born, but the impact it had on my family as a whole – I’ve always wanted to be able to do something about it,” said Maguire. “I reached out to Miss Allison Frase with the Joshua Frase Foundation and ever since then, we’ve just been looking for something to do and now we’re finally able to do it.”
Ruari’s 5K will be held on Oct. 15 between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the Sloatsburg Community Fields.
