Community centers are acting as cooling centers and some pools in Westchester County are extending their hours amid the current heat alert.

All Hudson Valley counties have indoor cooling centers set up, according to officials. Dutchess County officials say they are designating their libraries as cooling centers as well.

Westchester County has libraries, senior centers and some malls acting as cooling centers.

Westchester officials say several pools and two beaches will remain open an hour longer on Friday and Saturday in order to minimize heat-related illnesses among residents.

Orange County officials also say they have opened two new splash pads.

Dutchess County officials are encouraging residents to take part in indoor activities like shopping, seeing a movie and visiting museums.
