The U.S. secretary of education paid a visit to White Plains High School Thursday, which just fully opened to in-person learning.
Secretary Miguel Cardona toured classrooms to hear from students and teachers about the challenges they faced during the pandemic.
The high school now has 70% of its students attending in person. The rest opted for remote learning.
Cardona says he hopes to apply what he saw her to other districts across the country.
"What I saw today - commitment, student centeredness. Open communication - not only with them the school board but with the school community, the entire community - and a sense of trust. Those are the things that make reopening possible," said Cardona.
The visit was part of the secretary's "Help is Here" school reopening tour, which is providing insight to help the president meet his goal of reopening the majority of schools within his first 100 days in office
