Sen. Chuck Schumer says help is on the way for struggling Hudson Valley residents and businesses.
The majority leader was in Port Chester Thursday to tout the benefits of the American Rescue Plan for the Hudson Valley.
He said relief in the form of millions of dollars is thanks to the plan that was recently passed by Congress.

"We knew that Westchester needed all kinds of help. It suffered more than any others," said Schumer.
Under the rescue package brokered by Schumer, Westchester County will receive more than $187 million.
Rockland County will receive over $63 million, and Putnam County will receive just over $19 million.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer says he'll allocate this windfall in a variety of ways.

"We're certainly going to refund programs that help Feeding Westchester and local food pantries," he said.

"We know that we're going to continue to have a tremendous need for overtime in our health department, overtime in our police and corrections, because of this, so this is going to help fund that."

Live event venues like the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, where Schumer touted the rescue plan, will also get relief by the way of a grant called "Save our Stages."

"We've been closed more than a year, so that any help we can get is definitely going to be an assistance," says Bruce Wheeler, general manager of the Capitol Theatre.
The restaurant industry hit hard by the pandemic will also get help. - as well as local families.
Under the American Rescue Plan, New York state government is expected to receive over $12 billion to help offset the state's budget woes.
