Bedford police, along with several other law enforcement agencies, say they are searching for a man who tried to break into an ATM using a sledgehammer at a gas station.
The two suspects took off running, but officers were able to catch one and take that suspect into custody. The other ran off into the woods.
The man arrested was identified as Joseph Tomasetti, of Hyde Park. He is charged with attempted larceny of an ATM and criminal mischief.
Police officials say a neighbor heard a loud noise coming from the Mobil gas station at the corner of Route 172 and Pound Ridge Road around 3:30 a.m. and called police.
A patrol unit in the area quickly arrived at the Mobil to find two suspects trying to break into an ATM using a sledgehammer.
The ATM is located outside the Mobil station's convenience store, which was closed at the time.
Police, including K-9 units, are currently searching for the suspect. Investigators tell News12 they are confident they will be captured soon, and that there is no danger to people in the area.
