'So worried': Indian community in Hudson Valley scared for family in India amid COVID-19 surge

The coronavirus crisis is continuing to soar in India, hitting close to home for many in the Indian community in the Hudson Valley.
Itisha Bose of Scarsdale is scared for her family in India, which is dealing with the world's worst outbreak of coronavirus.
Her mother lives in the epicenter in the country's capital of New Delhi.
"I speak to my mother twice a day, because I'm so worried," she said.
Hundreds of bodies are being burned daily and the hospitals are running out of oxygen.
Kirit Sanchala owns Bhavik Indian Grocery Store in Elmsford. COVID-19 has taken the lives of some of his family back home.
Peekskill resident Sunil Thapar's mother-in-law died from COVID-19 two weeks ago in India.
"She took the vaccine, the AstraZeneca and 11 days later, she passed away," said Thapar.
Help is on the way. The CEO of Rockland-based Pfizer announced on Twitter that the company is launching its largest ever humanitarian effort to help India.
"Right now, Pfizer colleagues at distribution centers in the U.S., Europe and Asia are rushing shipment of Pfizer to the government of India," said CEO Albert Bourla.
The CEO of Pfizer says the vaccines that the company is shipping to India are worth more than $70 million. The shot will be made available to all COVID-19 patients in the hospital, free of charge.
