Long Islanders took the field Sunday afternoon to play ball in memory of a young Nassau County firefighter.

An inaugural softball tournament was held at Eisenhower Park in honor of Lindsey Parke, the 19-year-old member of the Levittown Fire Department who was killed in a January crash.

"I’m grateful and thankful for everyone who came out to support and to show their love for Lindsey Rose. We hope this doesn’t happen to anybody else and anybody else’s family in the future,” Parke family members said.

As News 12 has reported, Parke and Alexa Duryea were killed instantly after the car they were passengers in crashed on Old Country Road in Hicksville.

Frank Labidi, the driver of that vehicle, is a known car racer, according to the Nassau County district attorney and has been charged with two counts of manslaughter and assault in connection with the crash.

All proceeds from the tournament are being donated to local charities in Parke’s honor.
