Some East Tremont Con Edison customers woke up Wednesday to a jolt ? no electricity and no air conditioning.

Customers complain the outage, which occurred near Waterbury and Ellison avenues, started around 6 a.m. and lasted for about two hours. Residents said while the outage was not a major inconvenience, it makes them wonder whether the utility company will be able to keep up with the summer demand.

Con Ed said the brief outage affected 1,250 customers. The company counters that outages will take place whenever there is a high demand, but says it will work to promptly restore service.
