A number of pools and beaches around Westchester County opened up early for the season on Monday.

Peter Tartaglia, the first deputy commissioner for Westchester County Parks, said county officials made the decision because of the extreme heat.

"We want everybody to have a safe and healthy summer and that's what we're here for. We have 18,000 acres and this is one way that we can just give back a little bit," Tartaglia said.

Saxon Woods Pool, Glen Island Beach, Playland Beach, Sprain Ridge Pool and Willson's Wave opened up early. They will be open from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. every day through Labor Day.

Officials said Playland Pool and The Brook at Tibbets are also scheduled to open on Friday.
