A family in Somers that was touched by tragedy is getting a new home for free, courtesy of the television show ?Extreme Makeover Home Edition.?
Gina and James Arena lost their 6-year-old son, Jimmy, to a very public battle with an inoperable brain tumor in September. Neighbors in the Lake Purdys community convinced producers of the show to rebuild the small house where the Arenas live with their six daughters, which only has one bathromm
Over the next 106 hours, more than 500 volunteers will tear down the one-story 1,400 square foot home and build a new two-story, 3,600 square foot house. Contractors from all over are offering up their services for free and say they can't wait to get started. The show will premiere May 14.
