Middletown police are hunting a man who escaped their barricade Tuesday after allegedly raping a woman in her home.
Police responded to numerous 911 calls at the Wawayanda Avenue home after people reported seeing a naked woman running in the street around 1 p.m. Officers say the victim told them she managed to escape from her rapist.
Authorities surrounded the home, but barged in after being unable to establish contact with the suspect, 42-year-old Jose Rodriguez. Police say Rodriguez somehow got away during the standoff. They believe Rodriguez, who has a criminal record, is armed and dangerous.A helicopter, armored car and police cruisers canvassed the area ? which had been evacuated during the standoff ? in search of Rodriguez.
