Staples High School students will be banned from using cellphones and smart devices during school hours starting Nov. 5.

Westport Public Schools Superintendent Thomas Scarice confirmed that the high school will join the rest of the school district in implementing a ban on cellphones and smart devices from bell-to-bell. The ban also includes Apple watches and headphones.

There is already a ban on cellphones in elementary schools, and they are restricted to lockers and backpacks in middle schools.

High school students are currently allowed to use their phones between classes and lunches; however, under the new plan they will be required to keep their phones stored in their lockers for the entire school day.
