State comptroller report: Bullying, drug-related incidents up in New York schools

Several school districts in the Hudson Valley were flagged for high rates of bullying incidents, according to new data from the New York state comptroller.
The report shows bullying made up about 62% of all school safety incidents statewide in 2024. More than 29,000 cases were reported.
State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says emotional stress may be contributing to the problem.
"Emotions seem to be on edge and more raw perhaps than they have been in other years," DiNapoli said. "I think that might very well contribute to the issue of bullying."
DiNapoli says the data shows there is more work to do both inside and outside the classroom.
He also says school districts need to do more to ensure bullying and drug-related incidents are properly reported.
