News 12 has learned that Orange County ranks among the lowest in the state in terms of percentage of county residents who have gotten vaccinated.
According to the state's website, 10.3% of the county's population has gotten at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose.
Allegany County is the only county in the state with a lower percentage, at 10%.
Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus tells News 12 that he believes that number is because of a low allocation given to them and the distance to state-run mass vaccination sites.
"The state had said they were giving it out based on populations, but we saw other areas getting more. And that has impacted our numbers, but thankfully over the last week or so, we have seen a bump up, we've gotten their attention. And now we're starting to distribute a lot of vaccines to the public," he says.
Neuhaus added that an additional 3,000 doses will be given out this week.
